lyrics

Thunderstorm was coming
You could smell it in the warm air
At the summertime fete
People gathered for the fair
The clink of lemonade
And coconut shy
Tombola
And home-made plum pie

There was a smattering of angels
Clustered round a summer lighting strike
Great crack struck the tallest willow
Exploding the tea and cake stall
Scattering gingham and cucumber sandwiches

Mrs Plowright took the brunt of it
Felled down like a tree
Flat out in the damp grass
Ready to ascend to eternity
She used up one angel
Needed another for Mrs Simms
The third was for Mr Driscoll
They weren't quite sure what to do with him

It was a busy day for the angels
Clustered round a summer lighting strike
Great crack struck the tallest willow
Exploding the tea and cake stall
Scattering gingham and butterfly cup cakes

Busy day for the angels at the summer fete
One third of the Bridge Club won't make the next date

There was a smattering of angels
Gingham
Cucumber sandwich
Great crack struck the willow
Exploding the tea cake stand
Summer lightning strike
